Contribute to the quality, efficiency, and standardization of work undertaken by vendors to help deliver against journal requirements and departmental objectives.Create and maintain accurate documentation, product specifications and schedules for suppliers, ensuring suppliers are accurately briefed and use processes and tools appropriate for product requirements.Resolve general and specific problems with supplier performance identified by stakeholders. Work with suppliers to set measurable targets and monitor response to feedback.Provide guidance to suppliers as queries arise and as new priorities emerge.Collaborate with suppliers to implement new requirements, processes and tools, including supporting the set-up of new journals and the introduction of new suppliers to established journals.Employ appropriate quality-assurance, quality-control and tracking methods to assess supplier performance and drive continuous improvement. Ensure high quality standards are met by evaluating copyediting and typesetting performance by contractors and vendors, including correcting article and issue proofs, and recommending template and tool changes to the supplier.Lead and participate in regular meetings with suppliers and other stakeholders, focussing on improvements to performance, processes, documentation, and ways of working. Agree and establish robust and sustainable improvement plans and monitor delivery of change to help deliver improvements to handling of all titles.Collaborate with other production teams and internal stakeholders to achieve department and business goals and to ensure an outstanding experience for customers and clients during the production process.Participate in projects that develop and standardize production processes within the department, and document those processes, in order to improve department performance and the quality of our products. Report on project progress and performance to the department.Manage effective communication within the department and with other departments in the Press to ensure that good working relationships are maintained and development opportunities maximized. Support effective teamwork by adhering to standardized processes, participating in training in new processes or refresher training, by sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues to ensure all staff are aware of processes and problems and benefit from specialist expertise, by maintaining excellent documentation, accessible to colleagues and suppliers as appropriate, and by providing support to colleagues and team-mates during busy periods and periods of holiday.Train and advise new and existing staff, both in general and with specific reference to supplier management, to ensure they comprehend production procedures and new developments, whilst also reviewing and suggesting improvements to current training program.ABOUT YOUExperience in a publishing environmentSignificant experience in a production environment, including the management of new, sensitive, or significantly complex workExcellent communication, negotiating and influencing skillsFamiliarity with copyediting, typesetting processes, and XMLExperience managing contractors or 3rd-party suppliers as well as technical documentation (drafting)Good organizational skillsAbility to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and work to tight deadlinesAbility to work in a teamAbility to learn quickly and work flexibly with varied softwareGJC Level: I4 (for internal purposes only)We are committed to supporting diversity in our workforce and ensuring an inclusive environment where all individuals can thrive.
